"They're experienced in our schools, they're experienced in life...they have at least five years of experience in our school systems - they're not newcomers. So they really are a whole different category and if we really build on their experiences, it makes such a difference. So we're hoping that a new term is more than just a new term. It's a new way of thinking about this subgroup of students."

Creating Opportunities for Long Term MLs
Students who are considered Long Term MLs need to be motivated to read.
Educators can use the Quad Text Set Framework to encourage students to read.
A text set is a group of short and extended texts that are thematically connected.
Example:
Text 1: A short text connected to the topic to develop motivation.
Text2: A video text to build background knowledge.
Text 3: The central grade-level text of the unit.
Text 4: An article to develop an out-of-school connection to the topic.
